'Round Here Moon
For a moment, we can take our minds off present-day frozen spigots and salt-on-the-asphalt, in recalling the early fall setting of this brief Moonlight week’s menu. Two-thirds of it featured local talent, for which we always harbored a secret agenda— that the evening’s attendance might be inflated by an audience of supportive friends and family, filling seats that so often went empty for lesser-known traveling artists. That hypothesis of hometown honor forever eluded certainty, as for every time it proved true, there were two or more instances where it did not. Friends and family, after all, could experience household talent with little effort and expense elsewhere, and may have already done so enough times to pass up a chance to show up (and pay for it) yet again.
Let’s reiterate, then, that our objectives with this venue had higher priorities than a mad dash for filthy lucre— and thank gawd for that, or we’d have had to write off the entire enterprise as a crash and burn. People of all sorts made fun and fond memories at Moonlight, both on and in front of the stage, and if a little folding money was divided in the process, it gave us all even more to smile about.

Friends of the Moonlight--
Crisp and fresh, now THIS is what early September should feel like--- no doubt we have the final fiery blasts of summer yet to suffer... we'll laugh them off, knowing what pleasant chills will soon come when the mercury drops into the fifties. In the meantime, we suggest you come out for these two upcoming shows, then get out that fishin' boat or Wave Runner, for one last time, as we all sign off on a holiday weekend-->
Thursday 2nd-- LADIES' NIGHT OUT, $12
A rousing evening of time-warp terpsichoral harmonics, courtesy of five merry ladies well-versed in the delivery of the best jazzy blues, gospel, and doo-wop tunes from the last several decades. Fueled by renowned keyboardist Ray Reach, and augmented by a delightful and unexpected array of props and costumes, LNO jumps into action in the first minutes of the show, and won't let you go unhooked until the evening's good and done. Their regular audience has learned to contribute to the energy as well--- this is one show that's strong and sassy, but never sleepy---

Friday 3rd-- BUTCH MORGAN, and WILLIAM BOSWELL & JAMES THOMPSON, $12
Coming out of the steamy, swirling stewpot of Texas and Tejano culture that calls itself San Antonio, Butch has spent his time wisely, working that Southwest music scene for decades. A guitarist, a singer, a songwriter, a bandleader, a side man and a first-class character, Morgan can, and will, play everything from country to rock 'n' roll, from blues to campfire acoustic folk. Wordplay, willful abandon, and wry observation are staples of his set, with a constant vein of humor threading it all together. Boswell and Thompson took home the prize money in a recent Open Mic competition, their vocal and guitar skills impressive to us all... though they are most comfortable with their favorite cover songs, they have promised to bring us a new batch of originals for their half of this evening.
