FourQuarter Moon
The searing summer of 2010 finally fizzled away, leaving Moonlight to face the next annual obstacle to attendance, our state’s hyperventilated mania for high school and SEC football. Even our most appealing Friday and Saturday night events dropped down the list of priorities for parents of secondary school students, and Auburn/Alabama alumni/apostles who spent those very hours gathering en masse at floodlit stadiums or orbiting television sets at home, without regard to any alternate activities.
We learned not to bitch about it— not too hard, anyway. People gonna find a way to do whatever makes ‘em happy, and we wanted happy patrons to find their way through our doors whenever they might choose to do so. That actual percentage of revelers whose thrills don’t come packed in helmets and shoulder pads trickled in reliably enough to keep a heartbeat, leading us to toss off a new description of Moonlight as “a place that may not be for everyone—- it’s for everyone else.”

Friends of The Moonlight---
While we wait patiently for college football to finish its Autumn run--- we long for a Saturday night with more than a handful of listeners in our audience--- let's look on into the HOLIDAY SEASON, and ask you to think about where you are going to throw down your corporate/coalition/family CHRISTMAS PARTY. Shouldn't be too long before you realize we want you to have it HERE, in this not-too-big, not-too-expensive, down-home playroom--- we've hosted enough PRIVATE EVENTS to know that The Moonlight works really well for informal gatherings of up to 100 people.
We've saved several dates in December especially for your SEASONAL CELEBRATIONS, and our rates are VERY affordable--- simply CLICK "Reply" to this email to ask us about scheduling a holiday evening. We'll be glad to tailor our arrangements to fit your needs--- we can help with food, music, and decor--- let's talk now, before the prime dates are booked!
THIS WEEK'S SHOWS--->
Wednesday 13th-- EMIL BRYNGE and EMALINE DELAPAIX, $12
It's part of our mission to bring you songwriters from outside the region, and we've really stretched it out with these two--- they come all the way from across the Atlantic, bringing a vibrant contemporary Euro flair to our Dixie mountaintop. Emil is Swedish, hypertuned to Old Country inspirations and modern folk influences, a fingerpicking guitarist of first order... Emaline has more American experience, having toured this country several times before--- she's a charming storyteller, a multi-instrumentalist with an astral, transcendant voice. We think they're exotic and exceptional--- which is exactly how they regard Alabamians! 7:30pm

Thursday 14th-- SUSAN GIBSON, and STEPHANIE NILLES, $12
We're sure you know the tune, and most of the words, too-- Susan wrote the Dixie Chicks' breakthrough hit "Wide Open Spaces" back in the mid-'90s, early in a career that's built her a solid dance hall fan base in her home state of Texas and beyond. She's friendly, brassy, fun-loving, impossible to embarrass--- and a hell of a singer on top of it all. We've paired her up with Stephanie, a New Orleans-based jazz-piano/lounge punk beatnik dynamo whose blend of irreverent, sultry soul rearranges everything you thought you knew about the music you thought you liked--- we know the combo will be unforgettable. 7:30pm

Friday 15th--- STOLL VAUGHAN, and WES SWING, $12
Lanky and shambling, Vaughan looks the part of the New American Troubadour--- his affable, lightly twisted travel tunes recall the best of our rootsy/folk heritage, with a new urban aftertaste that tells you he's not new to this game... he's been called repeatedly to open for some major names--- Mellencamp, Fogarty, Def Leppard (!)--- though he really shines in a close-up setting like ours. Sharing the evening will be the very unusual but gifted Wes Swing, a songwriter who employs violin and cello as well as guitar in his compositions, accenting them with looping hardware and assorted technical enhancements--- the layered orchestral results are fascinating indeed. 7:30pm
