We rolling now...
Grayson Capps, June 16 2010, 69 present
A quirk of the calendar pinched off my chance to write a more detailed paragraph about Grayson Capps— it was one of our rare Wednesday shows, which I later came to reserve for sure-fire draws or extraordinary discoveries. This night was my reminder that GC had spent time in the Theatre Department at Tulane, as he easily held the stage and audience spellbound for an unbroken two hours, with just his splintery voice and percussive guitar to carve a notch in the new venue’s blooming narrative. He is, of course, still at it these days, having joined some other gifted Dixie minstrels to cobble up some music you can’t afford to not know about—-

Just as I tried to have something original to say about each artist who took a stand on the Moonlight stage, I aimed to a grab a visual document of every ticketed show we hosted. Alas, the archives reveal some gaps in that coverage, so in those instances we’ll make use of images representative of the time, as ably supplied by the internet, or even the performers themselves. I longed for the tech savvy to add pics & graphics to the original emails, but never managed that, just kept heaving out slabs of gray text, hoping our clientele would be willing to wade through it— O bless you if ya did. Somehow I knew those quick snapshots from the soundboard would come in handy some day, I do hope they brighten things up for you this time around—-
Bookings began to pick up, as word spread of Moonlight’s resurrection, and it appeared that the wheels were gonna stay on the axles for some distance, anyway— the weeks to come, as you will see, brought us some reassurance that we were in the right spot at the right time—-

***Friday, June 18th, JENN FRANKLIN and MARIE McGILIVRAY
Two of Nashville's upcoming songwriters and players, if you are a fan of Sarah McLachlan, Patty Griffin, Aimee Mann, etc. you will definitely be pleased with what you hear from these ladies. Chances are you've already heard a tune or two of theirs, covered by a more radio-ready artist, or on a TV series--- the farmer's-market outlet for the creations of many of today's contemporary tunesmiths. This is a wine-and-cheese kinda thing, bring a brand new box of crackers, and someone you care for--- ya'll sure to like it. 7:30pm, $12 (28 present)

***Sunday, June 20th, AMANDA PEARCY and COWBOY JOHNSON
The Texas Gulf Coast is a hard place to be a young single mom, if you're scratching out a living as a waitress, while struggling to make room for the songbird in you to take flight--- luckily, the right people took notice, and have helped Amanda get a well-deserved start with her poetic roots/soul offerings. Leavening her fresh, earnest approach is the many years' experience of her partner and new husband, West American troubadour Cowboy Johnson, widely acknowledged as one of the best Mickey Newbury interpreters ever heard... he has his own tunes as well, of course, and when the two of them play together, they are nothing short of sublime. 7:30pm, $12
